I hope you all had a lovely summer holidays and enjoyed the school break. The boys and girls in Room 3 have settled in very well and have gotten the school year off to a great start! This is on overview of what we will be learning in school this term:
Health and Wellbeing
This term P.E. will be on Tuesdays and Fridays. In class we will be learning about behaviour, feelings and relationships as we develop and implement our new class charter and get to know each other better. We are also learning about keeping ourselves safe and how to respond in an emergency.
This term guided reading will be on Mondays and Thursdays. We will also be going to the school library on Mondays. In writing we will be looking at story writing, poetry and also functional writing. We will continue to work on VCOP (vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation) to improve and develop our writing.
This term we will be focusing on number processes, looking at number ordering, sequencing and ‘hundreds, tens and units’. We will also be practicing and developing addition and subtraction. Our homework and mental maths focus will be on developing multiplication.
Learning Across the Curriculum
This term our topic is ‘Under theSea’, which will cover social studies, science and expressive arts. We will be learning about landscape, the coastline and the seas and oceans. We will also be learning about living things, marine habitats and food chains.
The class will have specialist teachers in Health and Wellbeing, ICT and Music.
Reading: Reading will be given twice a week. To support your child in reading you could focus on new sounds/words, fluency and comprehension.
Spelling: Homework will go out on a Monday and is due back in on Thursdays. The children will have an activity to complete along with learning their new sounds and spelling words for the week. Try to practise new sounds and words as often as possible within the week.
Maths: Maths homework will be given weekly on a Monday and is due in on Thursdays. This term the school homework focus is multiplication, homework on this will begin next week.
Wow! This is going to be a busy term!
