23rd August 2016
Here we are at the start of what I hope will be a happy and successful year for your child in Room 7! The last year in primary school is an important year for our pupils and much work will be done over the next four terms in order to prepare P7 for their transition to Fraserburgh Academy and P6 for their time in P7.
I hope that the following information will be helpful for you in supporting your son/daughter to settle into the routine of the class.
Homework will normally consist of: –
For first 10 weeks – scores to be recorded on Fridays – I have urged pupils to try to up level their tables and make a difference each week.
This really helps make quicker connections in maths.
Prepare for Book Detective activity on Tuesdays
FASE reading on Thursday – FASE stands for Fluency, Accuracy,
Speed and Expression
Pupils read in groups and decide together what they are doing well and
which aspects of FASE they need to work on – the class is very positive
To be handed in on Wednesdays
Each pupil has been given a reading/homework record book and I would be greatly obliged if you could
use this as an active link between home and school. It would be wonderful if you could sign the book when
homework is completed and also write in it if you have any comments or queries. This works best when
parents check and sign each night and make sure that no pupil is lagging behind on homework
assignments. This really helps the triangle of pupil, teacher and parent and ensures we all are working
together and that we are all on the same page.
Pupils have also been given a small blue jotter. This is their Word Book. They should note down any
interesting words which occur during their reading. This will help them build a more varied vocabulary which in turn will help produce more descriptive writing. It would be good if you could help your child to become a ‘word collector’. A total of up to 10 words a week can really make a difference.
We have a science based topic this term and will be looking at Biomes, Ecosystems, Food Chains and
Classification. In HWB, pupils will be finding out about body systems e.g. Respiratory, Digestive and
Groups will also investigate Famous Scientists and pupils should be on the lookout for any interesting facts or new developments in science and everyone should collect an interesting pieces of scientific information for our science wall before the middle of September.
Timetable of specialists for Term 1 is:-

|Wednesday||IT||10.00 – 11.00|
|HWB||1.30 – 3.15 WEEKS 1-4 ONLY|

Please feel free to contact me about any uncertainties you may have, as I find that a problem shared is a
problem halved and it’s better to sort out any difficulties, however small, as soon as possible. Looking
forward to a good year and to meeting you all at Parent’s Evening in September !
